What Employees Look For In An Ideal Executive Leader

In today's business world, it is important not only to attract ideal employees but also to keep them with the organization. Each individual looks for different things in a leader but there are some general guidelines for what employees look for in a manager or director:

A boss who lets her employees know her decisions in a timely manner. Businesses are dynamic, so keep your employees informed of changes as quickly as possible to keep everyone on the same page. An organization can only benefit from the efforts of its employees if they are working correctly. Any changes that affect your staff should be communicated to them as soon as possible to facilitate your employees making necessary adjustments. Workers feel their contributions are more valuable when they are confident they are all working toward the same goal.

A boss who understands what it is like to be an employee. Most people who become Executive Leaders were once workers, and it is good to let those experiences inform your decisions and interactions with your staff. While as a manager you have a different view and different responsibilities in your organization, remember what you respected (or didn't respect) about your former managers and bosses. Your workers will appreciate your ability to understand their situation from their point of view as well as your own.

A boss who is consistent. Nothing is more confusing than conflicting information from the top. Employees should not have to hear about the manager's decisions from clients or customers. Be consistent in your communication with your staff and clients. Employees will feel more confident working with clients and customers knowing that their executive leader is backing them up.

A boss who trusts them to do their jobs. An executive manager doesn't have to directly supervise every single aspect of each worker's job. Employees who feel their boss has confidence in them feel valued and appreciated. Also, workers who are not worried about constant criticism from their manager are often more comfortable bringing up new ideas or potential problems. Trust and loyalty go both ways, and a staff that feels like a valued, integral part of an organization will be more motivated to work hard for the benefit of that organization.

An effective staff can make a business thrive, and it is important that Executive Leaders maintain high levels of morale. Fulfilling the needs of your employees is an integral part of being an executive manager and will ultimately lead to a more successful organization.
