Behaviors Of Excellent Executive Leaders & Managers

Every organization needs direction, and in most cases it is up to the Executive Leader to provide that direction. Knowing your company and finding the right methods that will effectively motivate your employees is an important aspect of being a manager.

Be the leader. Each business is unique in its purpose, structure, and goals, but all organizations benefit from clear leadership. Find the style that suits both yourself and your company. While including your employees' ideas and input can be very valuable in making decisions, it's helpful to establish that you are the decision maker. Taking responsibility for your decisions regardless of how they turn out goes a long way toward earning the respect of the people who work for you.

Attend to small issues quickly so that they do not develop into big issues. Nothing in life runs perfectly all the time, so handling the bumps along the way is important for an Executive Leader. Simply put: the faster problems are dealt with the smoother your operation will run. Remember that small problems take less time to deal with than big ones. Managing these issues promptly and efficiently gives your employees confidence in your leadership.

Get to know your employees' jobs. While it may not be possible to know the ins and outs of every position in your organization, understanding and acknowledging the contributions of your workers will make them feel valued and appreciated. It can inform future decisions about the company, and it also gives a director an opportunity to see where adjustments and improvements can be made. Furthermore, you may notice that employees will more confidently provide input to you as well.

The Executive Leader is the face of the company for employees. Be the professional standard for your workers. How you make decisions, delegate responsibility, resolve conflicts, and rise to challenges all set examples for how you would like your company to behave. Even without explicit instruction, your employees will take their cues from how you handle situations.

In any business there are two important groups of people: clients and staff. A good Executive Leader must balance the needs of both parties in order to run a successful company. Satisfying customers is an obvious goal of business, but satisfying employees can only strengthen an organization. Being an effective leader motivates employees to better serve your company's clients.
